seriously...

So I just read a "tip" on abcnews.com about eating better and healthier....read the label. Seriously?! Anyone who knows anything about losing weight or making better healthier food choices knows before eating ANYTHING you should look at the label or do research on the Internet. It just surprised me that a major news outlet thought this was a valuable tip to share. It is valuable but hardly news worthy.

However, when I watch shows like Biggest Loser and they show what these people have been eating (whole pizzas loaded with cheese and other things, pounds of bacon, triple layered burgers) and realize it has never occurred to them how many calories or fat grams they are consuming, I realize that maybe giving the tip of reading labels is news worthy. I mean who hasn't had moments of WTF when looking at calorie counts online of some items that are available on menus of restaurants that you like to frequent. I mean do they just pour lard on some of these items, like a sauce?

And I have to admit that Hubbie has had his own "sticker shock" recently since he started counting calories, protein, carbs, and fat. Some of his standby food items surprised him in their makeup and serving sizes. And if I'm being totally honest, when I'm in my reckless abandon eating mode, I am not diligently checking labels, I'm in denial...I don't know and don't care.

So all that being said, I'll just take ABC's tip as a reminder of something we should all be doing.
